Maya - My home theatre project

The room....

Here are the images from my home theatre made in Maya.

Here is a greyish "leather" couch with the leather texture applied to it.

Here is the PC that controls the whole media centre application - from Movies, music, internet or games. Its sitting on a wooden cabinet that has been painted black. I had to create the brushed aluminium bumpmap in photoshop.

Here is an image of the projector, scallop lights and the screen. As you can see there has been some texture applied to the walls so there would be a more rustic feel to the room and not just boring matte walls.

The lights are my favourite feature in this room because of the translucency and the way that it bounces off the walls and produces the little shadows due to the texture of the walls.

And here is an image of the large projector screen and one of the speakers. The way the light interacted with the speakers was a little bit weak and it appeared like it didnt seem to work at all.

Here you can see that problem more clearly. Although the scallop lights really impressed me here.

The carpet didnt show up that well but there has been a granite texture added to it.

Maya - ACM238 Home Theatre Room

Here is research of what i did for the final of ACM238.

However unfortunately i didnt take progress snapshots so its not easy to show you where i came from.

I decided to do a home theatre room because the Gundam was getting long and i wasnt sure how to go about making the lighting for it.

I thought this one was a little bit too classy and difficult to make in Maya

This one i liked particularly because it was simple, it used a projector screen and the elements in the room were kept as simple, clean and tidy as possible.

Once again this was a little bit difficult and too classy. However i thought the lamps on the side had quite a good effect so i thought of using reverse scallop lights to give a similar feel but different direction of light.

In this one i noticed the effect of downlights gave the room a nice feel. However these lights are too bright for a Home Theatre room. The screen in this room was just a normal plasma/lcd tv which lacked the feel of size as compared to a giant Projector screen.

In my church we use these speakers. Just 2 of these were enough to fill the auditorium with good quality sound so i decided to replicate these speakers and use them within my project.

Of course i couldnt replicate the Logo because that would breach copyright and its an unnecessary detail to add

Maya - Texturing and Colouring

Here i can show examples of our skills progressing, where we applied texture and colour to the objects using different shaders.

Here is a "shock adsorber" object that i specifically created so i could apply a variety of textures.

Here we applied Phong to the silver hydraulic and the blue spring, Blinn to the hydraulic heads and a mixture of lambert bump mapped with noise for the joining part.

Group Work - Gundam Body

Here was the most complicated part of the robot - the Body.

Here there is much detail in terms of shape. This Gundam was my own personal creation and thus the Body had to be fully customized and created from scratch.

Group Work - Gundam Arm Poly

Here I took what i learned from my previous experience, redid the whole arm and shoulder with polygons and added the "hand" part.

It still needed smoothing but it basically was what i was after.

Group work - Gundam Arm

This time i tried to replicate the Arm..

However i mistakenly used Nurbs. it was incredibly difficult

Group Work - Robot

For the studio subject, we decided to make robots for part of a music video/Motion Capture project.

I based my robot on the ever popular japanese robot/mecha animation - Gundam

Here is their official website...

Below is an image of one of the Gundam's from Gundam Seed.

Practicing Maya - Cup

In practicing my skills and honing them in creating shapes and objects, i decided to do a few different subjects. This one is a Coffee Cup.

Learning Maya 2008

In Semester One...

The most exciting thing we learned was how to use Maya - a 3D animation/modelling program.

The first 2 weeks were basic introduction to maya and how to make simple objects.

Here is an example of what i did in the 2nd and 3rd week of learning Maya.

Without colour here is a pear, and two bananas.
